Genuine Elephant Garlic of Valdichiana
Generation of a QR-code that will give evidence to the final consumer of the certainty of origin of the Elephant Garlic of Valdichiana thanks to the elementary fingerprinting that binds it inextricably to the production soils, thus enhancing an element of local agrobiodiversity. A real product identity card.
- Geographical identification of the product, in order to attest its origin, preventing frauds and giving value to a typical product. Aglione della Valdichiana has been recently rediscovered, stimulating people’s interest: that’s why we were driven to to create the fingerprinting;
- Evaluation of biodiversity, considering cultivation methods with low environmental impact;
- Development of a digital system for enterprises, in order to give the consumer a complete set of information about the product;
- Knowledge implementation with training paths, workshops and interchanges with enterprises which have just started similar activities.
"Aglione" is a giant garlic, specifically Allium ampeloprasum var. holmense, which can reach 800 grams in weight and is characterized by the fact that it does not produce the aminoacid “allina”. The traditional cultivation of Aglione has practically disappeared, with the exception of a few plots managed at the family level. The cultivation of this plant is currently taking on importance and an Association for the Protection and Enhancement of the Aglione della Valdichiana has also recently been established. The work carried out by the Information Association has given rise to greater awareness among end users and consumers who ask for certainty as to the origin.
