![](/sites/default/files/styles/max_650x650/public/2021-12/plastic-less-milk-sustainability.jpg?itok=L9v7LUTb)
The objective is to reduce the consumption of plastics, used by the livestock farms in the conservation of fodder: sheets for covering the silage trenches (Grana Padano supply chain and drinking milk); hay packing nets (Parmigiano Reggiano supply chain), which may represent up to 90% of the plastic used in the company. The following items will be assessed on company scale: i) silage sheets that will allow a 45% reduction in plastic consumption, ii) hay nets that will allow up to the elimination of
polyethylene consumption.
action 1: Quantification of the use of plastic in the production and conservation of the forage
□ Action 2: New materials to reduce plastic in the silage cover
□ action 3: New materials to reduce the use of plastic in the haymaking
□ Action 4: Economic and Environmental Assessment of the proposed solutions
□ Action 5: Evaluation by the dairies of the solutions proposed in the Plan"
