PRO-VITERRE: Guidelines of good agricultural practices for conservation of soils of the main areas of wine hill emilianoromagnola

Obiettivi
Objectives

The partners's objective is the identification of good soil management techniques in order to match the environmental benefits, such as maintaining the organic matter, with the improvement of production levels of lives both in qualitative and quantitative terms. The appeal grass in the inter row, for example, while it is optimal in wet seasons for the preservation of soil erosion and to facilitate access of the machines in the vineyard, in the summer can affect the water stress of plants resulting in lower production. Fundamental then analyze how, when and in what soils resort to this technique and its undisputed benefits.

Activities

In a representative's farm of hillside viticulture, will be launched 4 different cultural practices between the vineyard files ("spontaneous grassing", "total work"; "alternate rows total processing and spontaneous grassing" and cover crop) and in-depth monitoring regarding organic matter content and assessment of the effect on erosion and agronomic practices on the growth and production performance of the vineyard. Additional monitoring activities, will be running on other 9 sites representative of major soil hilly lands of Emilia-Romagna.

Description

ACTION 1 STUDY SHOULD THE EXECUTION OF THE PLAN. I.ter task is to launch a collection of information concerning the organization and management of the vineyard in the participating companies in order to optimize the setting of field activities, training and outreach provided for in the Plan of Operations. I.ter includes a first inspection of all participating companies aimed at gathering information on the dl vineyard management (grassing, machining etc,), the characteristics of corporate soils as well as perceived by the grower during the processing and agronomic interventions. This survey is designed to identify representative sites within the member companies in which to place the studies provided for in the actions of the Operational Plan. Moreover, in this phase I.ter, The Catholic University of the Sacred Heart and the companies involved meet to identify the protocol of the implementation activities related cultural practices and their maintenance during the term of the Plan. The final part of this study provides a meeting with participants of the GOI time sharing and validation of the following documents useful for the realization of the Plan of Operations.

Description

ACTION 2 MONITORING OF THE CONTENT OF ORGANIC SUBSTANCE IN REPRESENTATIVE SITES This action will be implemented in the identified representative sites, as part of the preliminary study, between farms associated with the GOI. The soil environments where there are farms are roughly three: • Red Lands ancient; • fossil Lands Piacenziano - Terre Pliocene; • Terre clay of Val Tidone. The definitions of Terre refer to the previous works of viticultural zoning and in particular the brochure "Discovering the Terre and Piacenza" treasures made by I.ter and DI.PRO.VE.S on behalf of the Wine Route and flavors of the Colli Piacentini for the purpose of measuring 313 2007-2013 RDP. The organic matter of the monitoring will be conducted in sites representative of the major environments geo-soil hills of Piacenza and Faenza, in vineyards where row-managed coexist with permanent grass and mechanical processing, (with sottofilare managed by weeding or machining) .The analysis of organic matter will be performed with both Walkley method Blackche through elemental analyzer. The use of these two methods in parallel on the same sample is designed to test whether there is a correlation coefficient between the two methods. The Walkley Black method is the method to which they refer more than 35,000 chemical data of organic matter, collected mainly in the 90s, belonging to the database of the Catalogue of the soils of the Emilia-Romagna plain. The elemental analyzer method is the reference method of the European Community and the Emilia-Romagna Region has begun to adopt it in some recent monitoring on the ground.

Description

ACTION 3 ASSESSMENT OF THE EFFECT OF AGRONOMIC VINEYARD MANAGEMENT PRACTICES ON THE PROTECTION OF SOIL BY THE ENERGY
The phenomenon of soil water erosion leads to loss of soil, fertility and biodiversity, which, in addition to the agronomic effects, implies environmental and economic aspects of absolute importance. The potential risk of erosion, depending on the pedological environment and the agronomic management mode, is to be assessed, referring to the models of "spontaneous routing" and "total processing" for each of the associated companies. In particular, it will be demonstrated the runoff generated by a standard rainfall on a known surface of soil.
The results will be compared with the map of the potential risk of erosion of the Emilia-Romagna Region.
Examination of the potential risk of erosion in at least 4 different sites (2 ancient red and 2 plains of Piacenziano / Pliocene lands) is expected to be carried out with the representative sites studied in the next action.

Description

ACTION 4 STUDY OF VEGETABLE-VEGETABLE ANSWERS IN THE MAIN PEDOLOGICAL ENVIRONMENTS OF COLLINA
In representative vineyards of the Pinecone and Faine hills, the effect of soil inoculation and processing on the vegeto-productive vine responses will be verified.
It is planned to identify two farms in the Piacentina hill and two farms in the Faenza hill, which are also representative of the same pedestrian units.
For each year of activity (2 vegetative cycles) and for each treatment (worked and in-grass), harvesting will be determined by yield and on the same screws the weight of the wood will be the result of winter pruning in order to evaluate the equilibrium Productive with Ravaz index. In addition, when harvesting, the fertility of sprouts, the weight of the bunch and the berry will be determined. On the same date, soluble solids, titratable acidity, including the distribution of the major organic acids, and the pH of the must are determined. In addition, the content of anthocyanin and grape polyphenols will be quantified, and nitrogen will be readily assimilated at the University laboratory.

Description

ACTION 5 SOIL MANAGEMENT MODELS FOR ORGANIC SUBSTANCE AND MAINTENANCE CONTROL: STUDY ON DEMONSTRATING SITE
Tenuto Pernice, located in a pedological environment representative of hill viticulture, will be more thorough in the study of organic matter monitoring and evaluation of the effect of agronomic practices on erosion. They will also, based on two vegetative cycles of the vine, will also test the effect of different soil management techniques between the "spontaneous", "machining", "alternating file processing" files (one interlocking one and one processed ), "Temporary artificial lumbering with alternate files" (a spontaneous interlaying with a cover crop) on the vineyard performance (physiological state and vegeto-production of the vines), also considering the new cultivation and oenological demands imposed by the change Climate in place. In particular, a first characterization is planned through the study of the soils through 10 drilling so as to deepen the company's pedological variability and identify the representative area in which to implement the management models. After the pedological characterization, having gained an idea of soil variability on a scale, it is possible to identify the experimental site that will host the study of the effects of different soil management modes.

Description

ACTION 6 DEFINITION OF GUIDELINES FOR GOOD AGRICULTURAL PRACTICES FOR THE MAJOR GEOPEDOLOGICAL ENVIRONMENTS OF THE EMILIANOROMAGNOLA HILL
The main objective of the Operational Plan is to define "guidelines for good soil conservation practices in the main wine-growing environments of the Pinecone and Faine hills".
The guidelines will have to be validated by the farms and GO bodies involved and will serve to promote and enhance the role of keeper of the soil resource of the winegrower.
The guidelines will take into account the results and the information gathered in the following actions:
1) the effect of injecting with respect to processing on the organic matter content;
2) the effect of the excavation with respect to the work on soil protection from erosion;
3) the effect of injecting with respect to working on the screw-producing state of the screw;
4) Study of the effect of different management practices on the maintenance of organic matter, the risk of erosion and the vegeto-productive state of the vine.
Excursions will be organized, to which the GOI's representatives will attend, at the companies. It is planned to develop a mapping that illustrates the macronological environments of viticulture of the aforementioned areas. For each environment, the GOI will describe the agronomic practices that are advisable for soil conservation and the potential vegeto-productive response of the vines.

Description

ACTION EXERCISE OF COOPERATION
It provides for the organization, activation and maintenance of the GOI. At least 3 meetings per year will be organized to identify and share the progress of the work. I.TER with qualified technical, administrative and secretary staff will coordinate and support the affiliated agricultural companies.
I.TER, plans to stay in close contact with all partners in order to be aware of any need or problem and therefore assess with GO the solution to be taken. Field surveys, coaching training activities at companies will keep you in good contact with partners. It is also expected that at least 2 meetings will be held in the collegiate year to present the results and schedule the continuation of the activities. Any anomalies will be discussed and addressed to find and the most suitable solution.
In order to foster concrete cooperation, a part of the plan provides for a coaching course for insights into the value of organic matter in soils, on official analytical methods and knowledge available in Emilia-Romagna linked to Soil Maps, and On the impact of environmental and economic erosion for the winegrower who has to bear the cost of accommodation in cases of major surface water erosion triggers. Activities are also provided.

Description

ACTION DIVING
This action will initiate activities aimed at increasing the awareness among wine growers of the role they can play on soil protection from surface water erosion and the maintenance of organic matter. Moreover, in the absolute original, the undoubted environmental and agronomic advantages of the inoculation will be analyzed also in relation to the vegetoproductive and oenological performance in a context of changed climatic conditions.
Therefore, the action will be developed through:
- Organization of a technical seminar in the second year;
- Organization of a final conference;
- Definition of at least 10 press releases;
- Organization of at least 2 demonstration activities / year in the 2nd and 3rd year at the demonstration site;
- Promotes the PRO-VITERRE slogan so that it becomes a symbol of group work with the will to support and promote the territory; The slogan will be "launched" also on the PEI network to start interchange with any similar reality
- Realization of web pages in the portal of I.TER; I.TER will provide dissemination material that associates can attach to their websites;
- Realization of a video of at least 2 minutes that will be translated into English and inserted in addition to the portals of the GOI partners in the PEI network;
- Radio transmissions of "rural communication" at a local radio network.

Description

ACTION TRAINING provides training sessions through coaching aimed at insights into the value of organic matter in soils, official analytical methods and knowledge available in Emilia-Romagna linked to Soil Maps. Consultations will therefore be undertaken with each of the companies participating in the GOI. The farmer participates in the pedological surveys and the study of the organic matter content and the control of the potential erosion processes in the company.
The plan provides the following 4 hour individual coaching activity for companies associated with GO PRO-VITERRE the first year: "Knowing the business ground for organic and erosion protection in the wine-growing sector.
