Optimization of the practices of sod seeding (no tillage) for improving sustainability of cereal production in Apulia region
The project aims to make more sustainable the production of durum wheat in conservative agriculture (no tillage), improving the food safety of grain by introducing a series of innovations: sustainable cultivation techniques in the field, such as the use of biofertilizers and biostimulant microorganisms called Plant Growth Promoting Bacteria, the use of aggregates to control harmful insects during the conservation ofcereals, optimizing environmentally sustainable strategies during the field and postharvest phases.
To achieve the general purpose, the following activities will be carried out:
1. Characterization of the technological, nutritional and health-promoting quality of durum
wheat under no-till sowing conditions for the purpose of its differentiation and enhancement.
2. Improvement of the efficiency of use of nutrients N and P (NUE, PUE) through the use of
biofertilizers or plant growth promoting bacteria (PGPB).
3. Identification and implementation of innovative practices for sustainable defense against
fungi.
4. Evaluation of the efficacy and persistence of inert dust (diatom dust, zeolites) for the
control of insects infesting cereals in post-harvest.
