PEI-AGRI

Intelligent irrigation for the management of permanent meadows in the Enza valley

Obiettivi
Objectives

The project’s objective is to introduce significant innovations for the environmental and economic
sustainability of agricultural systems in Emilia Romagna that are largely dependent on water
withdrawal from the Apennine streams. Specifically, the aim is to favour the efficient use of water
resources on the permanent meadows of the Val d'Enza territory, typically irrigated with surface water
derived from the Enza river or underground water from wells. Automatic irrigation water management
systems will be tested, with the aim of varying the flow rate over time in order to modulate the supply
of proper irrigation volumes to the fields.

Activities

The project includes the following activities:
a) field test of innovative equipments (floodgates and sensors), starting form installation, start-up, finetuning,
up to remote management and verification of hydraulic and irrigation effects;
b) verification of agronomic effects of the use of innovative equipment in the management of irrigation
volumes;
c) evaluation of the farm's economic aspects related to the use of innovative equipment in the
management of irrigation volumes;
d) scenario evaluation on the evolution of the permanent meadows areas in Val d'Enza, which
considers various levels of diffusion of the innovative equipment proposed in the project.
