Bioagriculture innovation organization
The Go.Bio Operating Group carries out research and experimentation in the field of organic collective catering; The GO.BIO project plans to review the current Umbrian collective catering model both in terms of nutritional efficiency and in terms of regional production offer and to reorient consumption, through the development of organisational, management and production innovations, which meet the needs of Umbrian collective catering, greater food and environmental sustainability and the creation of a "short supply chain" system capable of enhancing the resources of the regional territory.
Activities of task 1: organic cultivation technique with use of heterogeneous material (varieties) temporary, permanent intercropping, cover crops and green manures use of alternative legumes use of biostimulants in organic farming Activities of task 2: innovation in production planning, organisation, contracts and logistics of the organic product supply chain for school canteens; Task 3 activities: digitization of information for traceability from producer to consumer; blockchain for organic products.
"The innovation transfer project addresses in a timely and organic manner some problems that limit the competitiveness and sustainability of the Umbrian agri-food system and the creation of added value in the organic supply chains (which are directly involved in the executive implementation project) • Promote growth of the VA of agricultural and forestry products with innovation and promotion (F09);
•Support agricultural companies that adopt product, process, organization and marketing innovations (F01);
• Support the innovation of agricultural, agri-food and forestry businesses with investments and streamlining supply chains (F07);
•Development of European Innovation Partnerships (EIPs) which bring together agricultural companies, the processing industry and the world of research and services (F03).
In detail, the innovation transfer project intends to address the needs linked to the well-known weak position that Umbrian agricultural producers have within the value chain which brings the products from the field and the stable to the consumer's table, even in biological agriculture.
Furthermore, today Organic Agriculture - a production method recognized by the European Union for almost 30 years - is called upon to strengthen a role of transparency, recognisability, healthiness, and to do this the producer must be put in a position to provide the products with a modern connection with users (distributors and consumers) with visibility and transparency regarding the production technique, through supply chain traceability, intrinsic to the organic control system and strengthened by the blockchain."
The project aims to transfer on a company scale, innovative techniques based on intercropping (Activity 1.2.1), on cover crops (Activity 1.2.2) and on the use of biostimulants (Activities 1.3.1 and 1.3.2) in order to to obtain advantages in terms of improving yields in quantity and quality and reducing the impact on the environment. The implementation of cover crops (Activity 1.2.1) and intercropping (Activity 1.2.2) is a type of approach that is designated in scientific literature as "ecological intensification" and which allows us to take advantage of mutualistic and facilitative mechanisms normally present in nature. Biostimulants (Activities 1.3.1 and 1.3.2) make it possible to increase the efficiency of nutrient use, with particular reference to nitrogen and to increase the resistance of crops to biotic and/or abiotic stress. The adoption (on a farm scale) of these technologies, which aim to increase the ecological intensification of cultivation systems by stimulating the natural processes of absorption and tolerance to crop adversities, represents a very important challenge for the future of organic agriculture.
Go.Bio. proposes an organizational innovation for Umbrian organic companies willing to enhance the importance of organic product traceability to communicate to consumers three important values linked to agricultural production: origin; quality and healthiness;
environmental sustainability and resilience.
Therefore, the Operational Group will take into account two main factors deriving from the union of the companies in an organized manner:
reach markets effectively and competitively, through logistics and traceability innovations; initiate transparent processes of exchange and communication towards the outside with the final consumer. The large group of companies that will be established as an Operational Group aims to manage completely innovative integrated logistics, which takes into account every existing factor, managing in an integrated manner, not only the delivery of production in the warehouse, but also other services for the target markets. The GO.Bio project aims to implement an organizational model for offering organic products on a regional scale (currently not present in the Umbrian panorama). To achieve this objective, rational logistical management of supplies is necessary, connecting services and quality standards with which to also be able to target other markets (national or foreign)."
