Virtuous Parmigiano Reggiano supply chains with high levels of animal welfare

Obiettivi
Objectives

The project’s objective is to verify the technical, environmental and economic feasibility of the production of a Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, able to ensure high standards of animal welfare in the farm, The final aims of the plan are:
- to seize the demands of either the italian or foreign consumers, concerned about the ethics and sustainability of the production process of the food they buy;
- to increase the competitiveness and profitability of the Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese throughout its supply chain, providing the Consortium of Parmigiano-Reggiano with examples of virtuous chains, that can be an incentive for the other supply chains located in the same production area

Activities

Analysis and comparison of international standards on animal welfare;
Development of tools required by the dairies to verify the requirements in the breeding farms;
Validation of the compliance from all the suppliers of the dairies with the standards of animal welfare;
Validation of the compliance from all the dairies with the standards of sustainability, ethics and
traceability of the product;
Improvmet and evaluation of the economic and environmental sustainability;
Analysis of the propensity to purchase animal-friendly products and of the potential marketing / selling
strategies
